Drupal Fixes Critical Field UI Flaw Linked to Remote Code Execution
A critical vulnerability in Drupal core's Field UI module could allow attackers to execute arbitrary code on vulnerable websites through exposed contributed modules or custom code. Tracked as CVE-2026-108097, the flaw stems from improper validation of PHP callbacks during table rendering. At least one known exploitation path does not require authentication, potentially putting affected websites at risk of server compromise.
Summary
Drupal has addressed a critical vulnerability in its core Field UI module, tracked as CVE-2026-108097. Drupal is a content management system used to build and manage websites and web applications, while its Field UI module provides administrative interfaces for managing fields and configuring their display.
The vulnerability is rated critical by Drupal, with a score of 19 out of 25 on its own risk scale. At least one known exploitation path does not require authentication.
Security fixes were released on October 14, 2026, for Drupal 11.4.10, 11.3.19, and 10.6.19. Organizations running affected installations should upgrade to the appropriate fixed release.
Vulnerability Details
| CVE | Vulnerability | CVSS | Impact |
|---|---|---|---|
| CVE-2026-108097 | Improper validation of callbacks in Drupal Field UI table rendering | 9.8(Approximate) | Potential remote code execution |
Affected and Fixed Versions
- Drupal 11.4.x: Upgrade to version 11.4.10 or later.
- Drupal 11.3.x: Upgrade to version 11.3.19 or later.
- Drupal 10.6.x: Upgrade to version 10.6.19 or later.
- Drupal 12.0.0 beta: Version 12.0.0-beta2 includes the fix but is not intended for production use.
- End-of-life branches: Drupal 11.2.x and earlier, Drupal 10.5.x and earlier, and Drupal 8 and 9 are unsupported branches with no available fix.
Attack Methodology
An attacker may exploit the vulnerability through a contributed module or custom code that exposes the vulnerable Field UI functionality. At least one known attack path does not require authentication.
The underlying issue occurs when Drupal's Field UI table pre-rendering process executes a PHP callable supplied through the #region_callback property without validating the callable. This can bypass the intended restrictions on untrusted render callbacks.
Successful exploitation through an accessible attack path could allow an attacker to execute code on the affected server.

Mitigation
- Update Drupal core: Update to Drupal version 11.4.10, 11.3.19, 10.6.19, or later.
- Address unsupported versions: Move installations running affected end-of-life branches to a supported release containing the security fix.
- Temporarily disable Field UI: If an immediate update is not possible, consider disabling or uninstalling the
field_uimodule as a temporary measure, after assessing operational impact. This disables the administrative pages used to manage fields and their display. - Review custom code: Check for custom implementations that set
#region_callbackon Field UI table rows. Review compatibility with the fix and test field management and display configuration pages after updating.
