International Women’s Day often highlights achievements, leadership titles, and industry milestones. Yet behind every milestone lies something far more powerful: a personal journey shaped by choices, mentors, communities, and quiet moments of courage.
Careers in technology rarely follow a straight line. Many professionals enter the industry with a specific role in mind, only to discover that their strengths and passions lead them somewhere unexpected. Others grow through the influence of mentors and peers who redefine what is possible.
To celebrate Women’s Day, we asked a few inspiring women a simple question: What has shaped your journey so far, and who inspired you along the way?
Their reflections offer powerful reminders that growth comes from trusting your instincts, learning from others, and building communities that support each other.
Choosing your Own Path in Tech
Technology careers are often framed within a narrow set of expectations. Many people assume the path is linear: study technology, become a developer, and grow within that technical track. In reality, the industry offers far more diverse possibilities.
For many women in tech, the most defining moment in their career is the decision to follow their strengths rather than conventional expectations.
That choice shaped the journey of Diksha Gupta.
“One defining decision in my journey was choosing business development over becoming a software developer after completing my BSc IT. I was trained in coding and initially thought I would follow the typical developer path. But I realized I was more drawn to understanding how technology connects with people, markets, and growth. Choosing business development allowed me to stay connected to tech while working on the strategic and relationship side of it.
The woman who shaped me most is my mother. She always encouraged me to make my own decisions and trust myself, even when the path wasn’t conventional. Her constant support and belief in me gave me the confidence to choose differently and move forward without doubt.”
Diksha’s journey highlights something many professionals discover over time: technical knowledge does not limit you to a single role. It can open doors to strategy, partnerships, product leadership, marketing, and countless other areas where technology intersects with business and human connection.
Her story also reflects the often understated role of family encouragement. Sometimes the strongest inspiration does not come from industry leaders or public figures but from someone who simply reminds you to trust your own voice.

The Power of Community and Shared Inspiration
While personal decisions shape the direction of a career, the people around us often influence how far we go. Mentors, peers, and professional communities can become powerful sources of motivation.
Inspiration does not always come from a single role model. For many women navigating fast-moving industries like technology and AI, it comes from watching others manage challenges, responsibilities, and leadership simultaneously.
Garima Aneja describes her journey as being shaped by a collective influence rather than one defining mentor.
“People often look for a single North Star mentor, but my journey has been shaped by a mosaic of women across the Tech, AI, and Marketing sectors. These are the peers and mentors who didn’t just break glass ceilings — they did it while balancing the heavy, often invisible, weight of personal and professional responsibilities. Seeing them navigate high-stakes AI strategy one hour and family life the next was my greatest enabler. It shifted my internal dialogue from ‘Can I do this?’ to ‘If they are doing this, I absolutely can too.’
Today, that circle has expanded. As a founder of the Women in Product Marketing community, I find myself refueled by the members themselves. Every networking session and every shared story of resilience adds a new layer to my motivation. I’m no longer just inspired by those ahead of me; I am deeply driven by the energy of the women walking right beside me.”
Garima’s experience reflects a growing shift across the technology ecosystem. Communities are becoming powerful engines of encouragement, learning, and collective progress.
Professional networks led by women are helping individuals exchange ideas, navigate career challenges, and build confidence in spaces that once felt inaccessible.
The impact of these communities extends beyond career growth. They create environments where stories are shared openly, achievements are celebrated collectively, and the next generation of women sees tangible examples of what leadership can look like.

Lessons from their Journeys
Although their paths are different, both stories highlight themes that resonate across the broader tech industry.
- Trusting your strengths: Career paths rarely unfold exactly as planned. Recognizing what genuinely interests you , whether technical development, strategy, marketing, or leadership, can lead to more fulfilling work.
- Support systems matter: Encouragement from family members, mentors, or peers often becomes the foundation that allows individuals to make bold decisions.
- Community accelerates growth: Networks and communities create spaces where professionals learn from each other’s experiences and grow together.
- Inspiration evolves: Role models at the beginning of a career may spark ambition, but over time, inspiration expands to include peers, collaborators, and communities.
These lessons reflect a broader truth: success rarely happens in isolation. It grows through relationships, shared knowledge, and the willingness to support others along the way.
Women Shaping the Future of Technology
Across the global technology landscape, women continue to influence how industries evolve. They are leading product innovation, shaping AI strategy, building startups, guiding cybersecurity programs, and driving business growth.
More importantly, they are redefining what leadership looks like.
Today’s leaders are not only focused on technical expertise or corporate milestones. Many are also building inclusive communities, mentoring younger professionals, and creating environments where diverse perspectives can thrive.
The stories shared here reflect that shift. They remind us that influence is not defined solely by titles or positions. It is often measured by the courage to make different choices, the willingness to uplift others, and the ability to turn inspiration into action.
Celebrating Journeys that Inspire Others
Every career story carries lessons that extend far beyond the individual. A single decision to pursue a different path, build a supportive community, or trust one’s instincts can inspire countless others who are navigating similar challenges.
International Women’s Day offers an opportunity to pause and recognize these journeys. Not only the visible achievements, but also the persistence, mentorship, and community building that make progress possible.
The future of technology will be shaped by people who challenge expectations, support each other, and continue creating spaces where new voices can thrive.
And often, inspiration begins exactly where these stories start, with one decision to believe in what is possible.
